The Hip-Hop Choir writes and holds rehearsals every Saturday 11:00am-3pm at the Milken Center. "When young people know you truly love them and will be there rain or shine, money or not, they will not let you down," Shirley Hamilton reports. That is the spirit with which the choir was formed, and that is the spirit that keeps it rhymin' and performing throughout the city.

at
UCLA LIVE! in Royce Hall on October 5, 2001
The
Watts Prophets continue to break new ground as artistic directors
of The Los Angeles Hip Hop Poetry Choir, a diverse groupof young
people from all over the city brought together to explore hip
hop and the written word as a means of personal expression. A
full house joined the Watts Prophets and the Hip Hop Poetry Choir
to spread a powerful message of hope.The
L.A. Hip-Hop Poetry Choir was developed as a project of The Watts
Prophets and The Watts Prophets Community Education Foundation,
Inc. in association with UCLA, the Henry Mancini Endowment and
Arts Outreach.
